Rotary Drilling Hose

A rotary hose, also known as mud hose or kelly hose, is an integral part of a drilling rig. It connects the standpipe with a swivel in the derrick to allow drilling fluid to circulate throughout the rig.

The hose is made of a tough rubberized plastic that can withstand high pressures and still allow for movement. This allows the swivel or kelly to be adjusted during drilling.

API 7K rotary hose manufacturers

The most widely used oilfield hose, the rotary drilling hose, is one of its most common and popular versions. It consists mainly of an inner rubber layer, steel wire reinforcement, and an outer cover. It is strong in elasticity and resistant to high pressure.

The hose is suitable for flexible connection between the top of the drilling riser and swivel which can move vertically, and can be used to convey water, oil, and mud high-pressure media. It can also resist corrosion of hydrogen sulfide.

During drilling, completion and workover operations, the hose may be exposed to well bore influx and/or nitrogen injection for a prolonged period of time that could damage the hose. A rotary hose manufactured according to API Spec 7K should not be exposed to pressure gases for prolonged periods of time.

According to API Spec 7K, the length of a rotary hose should be such that while raising or lowering traveling equipment, it does not kink when contacted with the swivel gooseneck (see Figure A.1). Calculating the optimal length of a hose involves dividing the maximum working pressure by the minimum bending radius at swivel when traveling equipment is at its lowest drilling position, and at the standpipe when it is at its highest drilling position.

Drilling hoses can be used to transport oil-based or water-based muds and other fluids to the drilling equipment. They also connect mud pumps and mixer tanks to convey water and mud into and out of the well. They can withstand high pressure and vibrations.

The hose is composed of a special NBR tube, several layers of spiral steel cables and abrasion-resistant cover. It has excellent resistance to abrasion, weathering and aging, and is able to withstand temperatures of -30 degC to +82 degC.

It is suitable for flexible connection between standpipe and swivel or pump and standpipe, as well as for damping vibration of rotary wheel machines and for conveying drilling mud at extra high pressure in oil drilling and exploration work.

These hoses are durable and have a long life expectancy. They are mainly made of high-quality synthetic rubber, such as NBR and chloroprene rubber.

They are resistant to abrasion and corrosion, cutting, goinguging, oil and can withstand temperatures from -30°C to +82°C. They are used extensively for conveying drilling fluids and other fluids such as technical water or clay-based solutions.

The hoses are available in various sizes and have bonded or swaged coupling. They are used to convey mud between the top drive and the standpipe in a drilling machine.

A rotary drilling pipe (also known by the names oilfield drilling hose or oilfield mud tube or drill pipe) can be hollow steel or aluminum alloy piping that is used on a drilling rig to transport water-based or oily mud and other fluids. It has a variety of sizes, strengths, and wall thicknesses. It can be as long as 27 to 32 feet, but it is also available in longer lengths.

It is a mandrel-built hose designed for high performance in severe working conditions. It has a flexible, kink-resistant tube and a cover for added abrasion resistance. This type of hose is ideal for pumping and injecting water-based or oil-based drilling muds, as well as hydrogel solutions.

It is an essential component of any drilling rig and can be found in many countries around world. Its demand has increased due to the growth of the global oil and gas market. It is expected to grow at a CAGR of 4% over the next few years, mainly driven by the rise in demand for oil and gas production in Asia Pacific. It could also benefit from increasing exploration in countries like China, Mexico, and South America. The United States and the Middle East are the top importers and exporters of drill pipes, but it is possible that other countries may become important in this market soon.
